Popular Lectures in June
The Popular Lectures series from Popular Mechanics magazine will be held at DI Telegraph on June 10 and 24, with each lecture starting at 7:30 p.m. DI Telegraph is located at Tverskaya Blvd. 7. Admission is 350 rubles and tickets will go on sale just before each lecture.
On June 10, astrophysicist Sergei Popov will speak about the planets and their riddles. What types of planets are there? Does our solar system contain all the known types of planets? Why are planets “out of place" in many systems? What are the interesting features of such planets as super-Earths and “hot Jupiters"? What interesting recent discoveries have been made in planetary studies? Learn the answers to these and many other questions at this lecture.
On June 24, physiologist Vyacheslav Dubinin will speak on “The brain and food." Where are the food centers of the brain? Why and how do we feel hunger? Can our bodies regulate our weight, and if so, how? What do we know about the connection between the flavor system and the center of emotions? Are glutamates, salt and sugar really forms of “white death"? How do different components of food act on the nervous system? Why do many of us “eat our way out of stress" or use food as an anti-depressant?
