Invitation to Attend Popular Lectures

On November 25 and December 9 the Popular Lectures series presented by Popular Mechanics magazine will look at the psychological and neuro-physiological aspects of love and sexuality. The lectures will be held in Moscow’s Digital October center located at Bersenevskaya Naberezhnaya 6, on the premises of the former Red October chocolate factory.

On November 25 psychologist Ilya Pluzhnikov will discuss the connection between sexuality and culture. How does the reproductive function find expression as sexuality? What is the psychological nature of erotica and pornography? How are sexuality and power connected? How have sexual taboos changed over human history? What caused the sexual revolution?

On December 9 physiologist Vyacheslav Dubinin will speak on “The brain: sex and love.” When did sexual reproduction emerge and why is it necessary? What role do genes and hormones play in forming gender and the gender hard-wiring of the brain? What factors trigger sexual behavior and control libido? What are pheromones? Which brain centers are activated during sex? How do love, oxytocin and testosterone affect the nervous system? Sexual imprinting: how do lifelong bonds develop?

Tickets cost 350 rubles and are available on the door just before each lecture, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.
