Popular Mechanics in May

The highly maneuverable multi-role SU-30SM fighter aircraft – the latest variant in the SU-27 series – has a very interesting story that is closely linked to the twists and turns of Russian history. Read about it in the May issue of Popular Mechanics magazine.

In Science, the article “The world between sleeping and waking" looks at people who wander at night around the room or even on the roof. They are sometimes considered lunatics and often the subject of unbelievable stories. What does science have to say about the phenomenon?

In the weapons section, “An air parade of winners and losers" spotlights the 15 main aircraft of World War II, and “When Berlin already surrendered" chronicles events of the last days of the war.

The Workshop section takes a detailed look at magic tricks in “The art of levitation."

Also in this issue:
Laboratory in the clouds: biological experiments without test tubes or pipettes;
Carbon chauvinism: it is very possible that we are not the only life forms in the universe;
Soviet Maglev: the history of Soviet magnetic levitation trains;
Hammer: the many varieties of this simple tool;
Copy bugs: nobody can guarantee that your copy machine isn’t bugged;
Silent roar of the future: a revolutionary invention by a simple automobile maker;
Madness on wheels: the five most unusual races.

The May issue went on sale on April 21. The iPad version of the magazine is available in the App Store and the PDF version from Zinio.
