NG Traveler At Global Tea & Coffee Festival
The country's most readable magazine about traveling, National Geographic Traveler, took part in the Global Tea & Coffee Festival, which was held in Kolomenskoye from May 29-June 1. The magazine prepared an interesting and versatile program for its many guests.
Chinese club Shu Ba and the Russian Mahjong Federation gave master classes and held tournaments promoting mahjong, the most popular gambling game of South East Asia. This game is also called "a competition of winds and dragons". Mahjong has become quite popular in Russia recently, so lots of gamers came to Kolomenskoye to compete.
A magnificent kiting show organized by National Geographic Traveler was held on Saturday, May 31. The Prokite club of kite lovers and the magazine were flying designer kites: laced constructions by Willie Koch (Germany), fantastic underwater creatures by Ron Gibian (USA), miraculous applications by John Burkhard (USA) and wonder-angels by Mike Delfar (UK).
The magazine did not forget about children. A contest of children-s drawings called "Ecology in Color" took place at the eco-friendly stand of the "Reservations" center from Friday till Sunday. The contestants received prizes and gifts. Some parents joined their offspring in drawing colorful butterflies.
June 1 is International Children's Day and National Geographic Traveler didn-t forgot about that either. As part of its charity program, the magazine handed out various presents to the children of First Circus Boarding School and social orphanage "Preobrazheniye" (located in the town Zheleznodorozhny). The most active audience members of the children-s play "Travelling to Noboring Land" also received special gifts.
The program finished on Saturday with a dazzling drum show by Kotedjuga, a band which plays traditional Guinean music. Visitors to the Africa pavilion happily joined the concert, leaving their tea ceremony behind. On Sunday, the Artur Gazarov percussion studio and its Brazilian rhythms transformed the National Geographic Traveler stand into genuine samba discotheque.
