The Moscow Times Photo Exhibit in the U.S.A.

The exhibition “Reflections: Russian Photographs 1992 - 2002” opened at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma, U.S.A. The exposition presents the works by Russian photojournalists from The Moscow Times English language newspaper.

All of the photos were previously published by the newspaper in a book titled “Reflections. A Decade in Photographs. 1992 - 2002.” Visitors to the Oklahoma exhibit will see computer prints of the photos. These photographs are just part of a larger collection of photographs The Moscow Times gave to the United States Library of Congress. Organizers of the exhibition noted that the Russian images are more artistic and expressive than American photos. The Russian photographers whose works are displayed were “are acutely attuned to the often shocking impact of societal changes” in Russia during the reforms of the 1990s.

The exhibition displays photographs by Yevgeny Stetsko, Mikhail Metzel, Igor Tabakov and Vladimir Filonov. All are currently working for news agencies and newspapers. The “Reflections” exhibit previously ran in Moscow, at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. and in Tel Aviv. Tabakov and Filonov received awards from the Russian Journalists Union for their works displayed in the “Reflections” exhibition.

The exhibition is part of broader program dedicated to Russian culture. It will run until January 4, 2009.
