Vedomosti at St. Petersburg Economic Forum
The Vedomosti business newspaper served as the general informational partner to the 13th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, held June 4 to 6 the Lenexpo Exhibition Complex.
The St. Petersburg Economic Forum is the most important consultative venue in Russia for representatives of government authorities and the business community. The 2009 Forum addressed topics concerning the modern stage of global development in the context of a global economic crisis. Participants discussed new approaches to understanding future international financial institutions, prospects for developing the banking sector, the effectiveness of government measures to combat the crisis and other no less significant themes. The Forum’s guests included 6,000 delegates and representatives of the world’s political and business elite, leading economists, specialists and members of the media.
Journalists from Vedomosti newspaper’s Moscow and St. Petersburg offices, as well as members of its commercial department, were accredited to attend the Forum. Vedomosti journalists participated in all plenary sessions, meetings and roundtables. A special column, “News from the St. Petersburg Economic Forum,” was created on the home page of the Vedomosti.ru web site. In real time, the site posted information regarding questions discussed at the Forum.
As part of the Forum, the Vedomosti conference department – with support from the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE), the United Nations and the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Foundation – conducted a session titled “Project LINK in Russia. Global economic revival: Where and When? Viewpoint of international business and analysts.” Participants discussed possible scenarios for the future development of the world economy and forecasts for the recovery of the most important markets. Alexander Shokhin, RUIE president, moderated the session.
