New Release from Alpina Business Books

On December 6, Alpina Business Books released “Liberalism is a Left Idea” by Italian professors Alberto Alesina and Francesco Giavazzi.

For the more developed countries, the traditional European division of the political spectrum between the right and left forces – in which the right advocates the free market and big business interests, and the left protects the poor and the working class and fights for state control of the market – is as much an anachronism today as the use of the term “industrialized economy.”

In modern Europe, state monopolies and labor unions have entered into an unspoken collusion aimed at limiting market and competitive freedoms, preserving the privileges of state functionaries and hangers-on, and against the young, the enterprising and the least well-off and socially protected citizens. This is the story told by “Liberalism is a Left Idea.”
