National Geographic Traveler Photo Exhibition

National Geographic Traveler magazine and the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing are presenting “Dubai: Ahead of Its Time,” an outdoor photo exhibition that opened on August 3 in Gorky Park.

The exhibit includes 50 impressive photographs of Dubai that reveal the beauty, uniqueness, and amazing diversity of a city that is growing at an astonishing speed.

“In 1991, there was only one skyscraper in Dubai, but now there are more than 1,300,” National Geographic Traveler editor-in-chief Olga Yakovina said at the opening ceremony. “A rundown of the innovations there reads like a science fiction novel: the tallest building in the world, artificial archipelagos, an island-like city center surrounded by a canal, the longest driverless subway in the world, a ski slope in the middle of the desert, the world’s tallest Ferris wheel, and flying quadcopter taxis.”

Visitors to the opening could also see and try mehendi, a form of body art that originated in the Middle East before the time of Jesus. Visitors who took part in a special quiz also had their names included in a drawing for a free subscription to the magazine.

The exhibition is open around the clock through September 2 at the Central Alley in Gorky Park. Admission is free.
