Global and Local News - Every Morning in Moscow

The International Herald Tribune (IHT) has announced that Independent Media Sanoma Magazines would begin printing the IHT in Moscow and would provide early morning distribution of the paper with a copy of The Moscow Times, beginning February 1. The IHT is the first international daily newspaper to be printed in Russia.

The newspaper package will initially be available Monday to Friday in Moscow, and then, progressively, throughout the Russian Federation.

"This is only the latest sign of the IHT’s strengthened focus on and commitment to covering Europe, including Eastern Europe," said Michael Golden, publisher. "The International Herald Tribune has a loyal following of readers in the international business and government communities in Moscow and throughout the thriving, emerging Russian market. This new printing and distribution agreement will allow us to provide them and visitors to the country with a much more timely newspaper."

Didier Brun, senior vice president and strategy and development director at the IHT, added: "Coming right on the heels of IHT print site launches in Ireland, Egypt and Turkey last year, this important deal in Russia is only the latest development for the IHT’s printing network globally. It also represents our ninth publishing accord worldwide and we are very much looking forward to working with The Moscow Times team in Moscow. Independent Media is one of the leading media groups in Russia and their expertise and infrastructure will prove invaluable to building our sales in the country."

"This will be the first time in Russian history that an international newspaper like the IHT will be published daily in Moscow, providing Russians and expatriates alike with global news at a time when freedom of speech is hotly discussed in Russia. This is a very positive development and I'm very proud that we are part of this project," says Derk Sauer, CEO of Independent Media.
