Help Prisoners
Publishing house Independent Media helps inmates at the Na Voykovskoy jail.
Lack of information is one of the jail's biggest problems. Its small library is not sufficient for prisoners, and besides, it doesn't receive any periodicals.
In October, Independent Media started a charity program to support the jail. 100 copies of the publishing house's editions were enthusiastically accepted by the prisoners. Nowadays, IM gives magazines to the jail as a monthly donation. The company also helps adolescent prisoners and gave the jail's school writing and cleaning utensils and board games.
Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping and Harper's Bazaar held another charity campaign to support women prisoners. They've collected more than 50 boxes of magazines and cosmetic testers which will be sent to women's jails in Novy Oskol, Nizhny Tagil and Mordovia in December. The campaign is being held together with the Interregional Charity Foundation for prisoners.
