"Cats" to Premiere in Moscow

The Russian premiere of Cats was announced at a press-conference on December 1. This world blockbuster musical will be performed in Moscow in March 2005. The play is brought to Russia by Stage Holding with Independent Media's support.
The press-conference participants included Derk Sauer (Independent Media general director), Bart van Schriek (Stage Holding financial director), Dmitry Bogachev (Stage Holding Russia director), Yegor Druzhinin (producer) and Alexey Kortnev (translator of the musical).
Cats is a musical with a rich history. It has broken all records for longevity at West End and Broadway. An immediate hit when it was first staged in London in 1981, it has been translated into 12 languages, performed in over 30 countries and visited by more than 50 million spectators all over the world.
The musical will be performed in Moscow in its original staging by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Trevor Nunn, Gillian Lynne and John Napier. Only the text will be adapted: Nobel laureate Thomas Stearns Eliot's lyrics have been translated into Russian by Alexey Kortnev.
