Cosmopolitan’s Runaway Brides

Last Saturday the readers of Cosmopolitan magazine and the active participants of the Cosmo.ru forum staged their annual flash mob titled “Runaway Brides.”

This year the campaign has grown to an unexpected scale and was staged in seven cities: Moscow, Krasnodar, Perm, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Saratov and Ulyanovsk. This June, magazine readers will “bolt” in Omsk, Ufa, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg and, or course, Ivanovo. A record 90 people will participate in the city of brides. All told, over 400 young women will participate in the stunt!

At the appointed day and time, the young women don wedding garb (their own, borrowed from a friend or sister, a rental or bought specially for the event), crowd into limousines and set off to paint the town. Their destination – the traditional wedding route. At each stop, they have their photos taken, pose for surprised passers-by and take off on a mass run. For the finale in the evening, the women drive to a club where they party until morning. The event is traditionally held in late May or early June, because one can always count on good weather during the last weekend of spring.

The Cosmopolitan flash mob is an excellent way to enjoy yourself. For many participants, the event is their first opportunity to don a wedding dress and learn what it feels like in the role of a bride. And it isn’t necessary to put on make-up or get a fancy hairdo – just have fun and goof around as much as you like. What’s more, it’s a great way for people who have only corresponded on the magazine’s web forum to meet each other and converse in person.
